My personal why to sign up for the Walk for Autism this May.
This May, I’m taking part in Walk for Autism - which means I’ve committed to walking 7,000 steps every day for the month.
I’m doing it to support autistic Australians - and this one’s also pretty personal.
I was diagnosed as autistic, in December last year, at 41 years old, and it’s one of those things that quietly explains a lot. The overwhelm, the contradictions, the moments of “why does this feel harder than it should?” - it's all begun to make a bit more sense.
So this isn’t just about getting my steps in (although I’m sure there’ll be days where that’s a challenge in itself). It’s about awareness, acceptance, and supporting better services and understanding for autistic people—especially those who, like me, went a long time without answers.
I’m also doing it for younger Vic, who was doing her best without really knowing why things felt the way they did.
If you’d like to support me or the cause, I’d really appreciate it. And if not, that’s okay too, just being here and reading this already means a lot :)
