I’m walking 7k steps a day this May to support Autistic Australians
I’ve stepped up to Walk for Autism!
My brother Nic is on the autism spectrum, and growing up alongside him has been one of the most defining experiences of my life. Having a sibling with autism is a unique and sometimes challenging experience that many people don’t fully see or understand unless they’ve lived it—and even then, autism looks different for everyone! I wouldn’t change my brother for the world, but I do wish the world would change for him—to become more understanding and inclusive of people like him.
Did you know? Because the world is not autism-friendly, 70% of Autistic people in Australia experience mental health challenges.
Coming from a refugee, single-income family, Nic probably felt those challenges even more deeply. That’s why I’m fundraising for Autism Spectrum Australia through the Walk for Autism—to help create a future where families feel supported, communities are more inclusive, and autism is not just better understood, but embraced. Because while autism can be incredibly complex, it can also be beautiful.
If you can donate, please do! Funds raised can help Autistic people and their families access earlier diagnosis, provide autism-specific schooling for children on the autism spectrum, support research and help create inclusive, autism-friendly environments.
Even if you can’t donate, raising awareness still counts for something. So thanks so much for just being here and reading Nic’s story ☺️⭐️
