Why walk?
All people on the autism spectrum are affected to some degree in two main areas: social communication and repetitive patterns of behaviour. Autism is also often characterised by sensory sensitivities. Autism is a lifelong developmental condition.
The quality of life for many children and adults is significantly improved by a diagnosis that leads to appropriate evidence-informed intervention or support that recognises individual strengths and interests.
Aspect supports people on the spectrum and their families by providing information, education and a variety of services that meet the specific needs of each individual.
In 2019, one of my children was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 2. The journey to a diagnosis has been a rollercoaster of emotions; relief that we can resource assistance and support through various therapies and services, and the emotional hardships that this diagnosis also brings.
In doing this walk I hope to raise awareness of what ASD is and how it impacts the person diagnosed, along with their family members and peers. Additionally, if I can benefit from physical fitness and raise money for Aspect, that's a bonus. My goal is to provide information about ASD and to break down some of the misunderstanding and social bias surrounding ASD.
Thank you for reading, donating and supporting.

I'm walking for....
I’ve stepped up to Walk for autism to help create a world where no-one on the autism spectrum is left behind.
I’ll be challenging myself to walk 10,000 steps a day for 8 days while raising much needed funds to support people on the autism spectrum.
An estimated 1 in every 70 people is on the autism spectrum. Along with their family members, this means autism is a part of daily life for over a million Australians.
People on the autism spectrum see, hear, feel and experience the world differently. For many, simply coping with the everyday can lead to confusion, anxiety and isolation.
By coming together and taking action, we can help provide opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to participate, engage and thrive in the world around them.
