I’m walking 7k steps a day this May to support Autistic Australians

I’ve stepped up to Walk for Autism. Please show your support as I walk my own brilliant way for Autistic Australians and their families!

Did you know? Because the world is not autism-friendly, 70% of Autistic people in Australia experience mental health challenges.

That's why I'm walking 7k steps a day in May to fundraise for Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia). Can you please support me?

Your donation will help deliver services that support Autistic people to live their best life.

Funds raised can help Autistic people and their families access earlier diagnosis, provide autism-specific schooling for children on the autism spectrum, support research and help create inclusive, autism-friendly environments.

Please support my Walk for Autism and donate now.

I am doing Steps for Autism again 💙

I first met Lincoln’s dad, Simon, back in 2020. A few months later I met his daughter Charlotte and Lincoln—and I instantly fell in love with them both.

Why am I doing this?

Lincoln is a beautiful 9-year-old (soon to be 10) boy who experiences the world in a different way to many others. He has ASD Level 3 among many other diagnoses.

I’m doing this to help raise awareness about autism.

The autism spectrum is exactly that—a spectrum. It is incredibly wide, and no two diagnoses are the same. There is no “one size fits all.” People with autism experience the world differently, and sometimes they struggle to navigate everyday life.

Things that many neurotypical people take for granted—getting dressed, personal hygiene, going to the shops, eating, having a nice family dinner out—can be overwhelming and difficult to process.

Then there’s the exclusion.

Not just for the individual, but for their families too. Everyday outings can come with anxiety and fear of judgement by society and comments:

“Will they just sit still?”

“Will they be quiet?”

“Control your child.”

Our reality often looks like:

“Can I duck into the shops today without a meltdown?”

“Will people stare, judge, or show understanding?”

Many families plan their entire lives around support—doing groceries, cleaning, and errands while their child or individual is at school, in therapy, or with a support worker—because constant supervision is needed.

Living and breathing autism can feel isolating, and support is often limited due to a lack of understanding.

My goal is to help change that.

Lincoln attends multiple therapy sessions each week to try and fit into ourworld. The least society can do is show more kindness, patience, and understanding to meet him—and others like him—halfway.

I’m always happy to answer questions or share experiences. The more we talk about autism, the more understanding we create—and the better we can make the world for these uniquely amazing individuals 💙
