My why? - Walk for Autism. 7️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣🚶♀️👟
April has been Autism Awareness Month, and it’s had me reflecting on the beauty, complexity, and strength of neurodiversity - especially within my own little family.
I’m a mum to two incredible neurodiverse humans - each gifted in their own unique ways, with their own quirks, challenges, and the way they light up my world, as well as keep me on my feet.
And yes, they each have their own challenges and complexities too. They are very sensitive - they feel deeply, think deeply, and experience the world in ways that are uniquely theirs.
My eldest is high‑functioning - a little genius. He started talking at 2 ½ and by the time he was three, he knew all the countries in the world on the globe, their flags and capital cities. His mind is like a sponge, but he’s also very regulated, strong willed and set in his ways, finding comfort in predictability.
My youngest is even more strong‑willed - a dreamer, forever wandering through his own magical world, and he doesn’t always understand why the world around him doesn’t align with his. Honestly, I get dizzy watching him with his endless energy bouncing around (stimming), sometimes for hours - it’s far more entertaining than TV - and I often find myself wondering what stories are unfolding in his mind.
Life as a single mum is far from easy… but I feel so incredibly blessed that they are mine - especially after seven losses. They are my miracles.
In light of and to honour Autism Awareness Month, I’ve signed up for Aspect’s Walk for Autism - 7,000 steps a day in May. I’m hoping to raise funds to support autistic people and their families (like mine).
If you feel called to sponsor me, I would be so grateful. Every little bit helps create more understanding, more support, and more connection.

My own passion project - "My Story To Tell," (Facebook / https://www.facebook.com/thisismystorytotell) was created to help people feel seen, heard, and less alone - especially those whose stories don’t always fit neatly into the world’s expectations. Neurodiversity is a huge part of my story, my children’s stories, and the stories of so many families in our community. Supporting this walk feels like a natural extension of that mission.
Here’s to embracing and raising awareness of neurodiversity - the strengths, the quirks, the challenges, the brilliance, and the stories that make each of us who we are. Not just in April, but always.

Because every story matters. Every voice matters. Every child matters.
